What We Are
The Jefferson County Education Association (JCEA) is both a professional association and an advocacy organization.
Representing approximately 5,200 non-administrative professional educators working in the Jefferson County School District, JCEA is affiliated with the 39,000 member Colorado Education Association (CEA) and the 3.2 million member National Education Association (NEA).
The Association - at all three levels - is a highly democratic organization governed by members. The decision-making structure is designed to ensure maximum representation. Members elect colleagues to represent them in all Association matters.
Within JCEA the voices of members are clearly heard through three elected representative bodies:
The JCEA Council is the Association's policy-making, legislative body. It is composed of 175 Association Representatives (AR's) elected in each school and special education area at a ratio of one representative for every 25 members. The Council meets monthly.
The JCEA Board of Directors is the Association's executive body. It is comprised of at least one director elected from each high school articulation area and four executive officers, elected district-wide.
JCEA members who are elected to state and national positions also serve on the Board. The Board meets monthly.
The JCEA Executive Committee includes the president, vice-president, secretary and treasurer. The Executive Committee is the management body of the Association. It meets bi-weekly.
Annually, JCEA members elect representatives to both the CEA Delegate Assembly and the NEA Representative Assembly, one of the world's largest deliberative bodies with nearly 10,000 delegates. These are the policy-making bodies of the state and national associations.
