- Just One Decision. Belong.
- JCEA is the voice of and for Jeffco teachers
- Chartered in 1968 and today representing over 5,000 professional educators in Jefferson County, JCEA is an organization governed by and for teachers. We are proudly affiliated with the Colorado Education Association and the National Education Association. Being both a professional association and teachers' union, JCEA advocates for our members, our profession, our public schools, and for the needs of the students in our classrooms. We believe that a teacher's working conditions are, indeed, a child's learning conditions. Both must be optimal to provide a quality education for every child.
- Advocacy for members through program delivery
- JCEA's programs and services are developed and implemented by teacher volunteers with the assistance of three full-time UniServ staff, two full-time associate staff, and a full-time released president. Services are delivered through the program areas of Bargaining, Teacher Rights, Political Action, Communications, Membership and Instructional Advocacy. JCEA also provides a Member Benefits Program, offering many discount benefits and consumer services to our members.
- Advocacy for members in our schools, district and community
- Through JCEA, members have access to three full-time UniServ staff who are trained in specific program areas (negotiations, communications, and political action) and member advocacy. They provide timely consultations to members and, when requested, on site problem solving and conflict mediation. If a problem cannot be resolved and the issue is a violation of contract or district policy, the Association will process a grievance.
-
- The Association's leadership and staff also advocate for the needs of our members through participation in a wide variety of community and school district committees and task forces. We represent teachers at every Jeffco school board meeting, monthly meetings with the superintendent, and at the bargaining table. The Association is justly proud of the comprehensive, yet flexible, Master Agreement that has been crafted by over thirty years of successful negotiations.
- Advocacy for members in our legislature
- Finally, JCEA represents teachers at the state legislature. We believe that every education decision is ultimately a political decision. For those who make policy, create law and provide funding for public schools are all elected by Colorado voters. Our efforts in the political arena are coordinate by our bipartisan Political Action Committee (PAC). In addition, JCEA assigns a teacher liaison to every elected legislator to be sure the teacher voice is heard in the Colorado General Assembly. No member dues are used to fund the Association's PAC. Support for such programs comes from the "Every Member Option" program, a voluntary member contribution to PAC through payroll deduction.
