- We believe every child has the right to learn in a school that is safe and free of drugs and violence.
- We believe in the democratic values and ideals of our nation and in our system of free public schools where these values and ideals are passed on from one generation to the next.
- We believe teaching is as much an art as it is a science and that the teaching/learning relationship is unique and must be respected and supported.We believe teachers' working conditions are also our students' learning conditions; both must be optimal.

These fundamental beliefs are reflected in the Association's mission statement: "The Jefferson County Education Association exists to empower educators to advocate for professional rights, responsibilities and practices to achieve educational excellence within a changing society."
